BLACK HISTORY MOMENT: DAP

The DAP, an acronym for Dignity and Pride is much more than a handshake. It originated among black soldiers during the Vietnam war, who in addition to fighting for their lives on foreign soil, also faced attacks of racism, segregation, including, by some reports, being shot and killed by white U.S. soldiers during combat.

The dap was developed by Black soldiers as a symbol of unity and solidarity and their commitment to looking after one another.
